Running Electric for Dryer
Is there a particular type of romex that I would use to run 220 up to a new laundry room? The one that goes to my dryer now (in the basement) looks different than any others I have - even the 220 that I ran out to my garage is orange...but this is like a beige, rounder line that goes to the outlet for my dryer. What is that? I don't see any codes or stamping on that line so I am trying to figure out what to run when I install a new 220 volt outlet upstairs. I have included three pics of my current situation - downstairs - looks like a 30 amp double breaker.

Re: Running Electric for Dryer
That dryer receptacle looks older, before the implementation of color coding of NM cable. The color codes of white, yellow, and orange correspond to 14, 12, and 10 gauge NM cable sheathing respectively.
Not sure when the color coding started. I want to say some time in the early 2000s or so.

Gotcha. So I would just go with the orange (10 g) nm cable, I assume. I ran that same thing out to my garage with 30amp double pole breakers. Is that the standard for a typical dryer (it's only about 3 years old not sure the exact draw but it is running on this now and is fine).

I would check for sure what your dryer is requiring for amps. and wire accordingly. It can never hurt to have heavier wire then is required. I would use 8 gauge wire.
Re: Running Electric for Dryer
When you run the new cable, stay clear of that screw (see arrow)
And that is a really BAD staple !! Use the proper staple for 10/3 cable. This is a very important safety issue.
