Aluminum threshold is off
Aluminum threshold is off
I just installed a storm door and the existing aluminum threshold is short by at least an inch. What are my options here? Should I remove the existing threshold and install a new one? I don’t think I could move the existing threshold and still have a seal on both doors.

Re: Aluminum threshold is off
Look for a rubber sweep that can be attached to the door to cover the gap. You may have to find a specialty door supplier, it isn't likely that the average big box will have what you need.
I have the same problem with my security screen door, this was the solution:

I also have to say that this repair was not done by me, so I don't know where the sweep was found, it could have been modified, I do not know, but it at least gives you something to look for or maybe find something to modify on your own.

If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

I had that same problem a few years back (but not that big of a gap) I found a door sweep that screwed to the inside face of the door and filled the gap. You may have to get creative and stack two together to get that to cover?

Both good options. Thank you. Shannon, did the additional sweep interfere with the closer arm? I’m waiting to install the arm until I figure out this gap.
I’ve also thought about “extending” the threshold by installing a piece of wood on the deck flush with the exterior wall. Not sure how that would look though.

Re: Aluminum threshold is off
In my case it did not, you have adjustment in the closer for some extra needed closing speed if needed.
You could do that with wood just keep it to a min. as it may be kind of a toe stubber for most people
