Porch Insulation and Venting

Post by flchacon » Thu May 18, 2017 6:22 pm

I have an enclosed porch that is not heated. It has 2 x 12 roof beams and is not insulated. The porch gets very hot in the summer time and I want to insulate the ceiling. I know I can easily install soffit vents and installation, but there is no ridge vent? Is this an issue on a porch? I was thinking I could use R-19 which would leave five inches of space between the roof and the installation. Is that enough room for the roof to breath and not cause rotting? Any thoughts on this??

Yes that is enough room, be sure you have soffit venting and then add enough roof vents towards the upper end of the roof as well to keep the air circulating.
