I am building a new deck and have a question about post size for my intermediate handrail posts. My corner posts are going to be 6x6 with footings. I was planning on extending the 6x6 post up to use as the handrail post. For the intermediate posts, my initial thought was to use 4x4 posts since they are cheaper, but do you think it will look odd with 6x6 corner posts.
Also i am planning on putting a 5/4 x 6" deck board to cap all the posts and create sort of a drink shelf. It would end up being flush on the corner 6x6 posts and have a 1" overhang on both sides of the 4x4 posts.
Any advise or opinions are welcome.

Yes, you can use smaller intermediate posts.
