Is there any reason that you can't use an undersill trim under a soffit or under a soffit in a gable. I see that j-trim is used but thought I would try the undersill trim since it seems to have a cleaner look.

it will work under a horizontal soffit if the cut in the last row of siding ends up in the correct position in the siding profile to use it. It will never work in a gable under the soffit because the cuts on the ends of the siding pieces will have both high and low areas in the profile along the cut.
