Basement wall pitting repair before insulation

Post by l3shik » Fri Dec 01, 2017 1:29 pm

Hi,

I'm new on the forum but not new to renos. Tackling the basement and have a question for the pros.

The basement was sealed with some paint and the water inside the wall accumulated and in some areas, the inner 1 cm of concrete is chipping away due to efflorescence buildup underneath. I'm chipping away all the compromised concrete, should I ressurface it afterwards before gluing the solid insulation against it?

The basement will be 2.5" R11 solid insulation with 2x4 studs filled with Roxul R14 and a 6 mil moisture barrier on the inside. On the outside, it's waterproofed with fiberglass reinforced aquabloc and a delta membrane. To ressurface, I was going to use Sikatop123, amazing stuff, but not sure if it's necessary. Do I need to ressurface it or just clean the efflorescence and leave it alone?

Thanks in advance

Ya repairing is really not needed in your case so I would leave it alone

Another question. I have removed some broken concrete chunks as they were just hanging out there below the rim joist. No issues with the floor above but this might become a structural issue at some point. What would be the best way to fix this? Any particular reinforced mix?

Again by looking at the picture ,what you have removed is no issue.
