Floor refinishing sequence

Post by Jim W » Wed Feb 07, 2018 8:22 am

We plan to have wall to wall carpet torn up and the wood floors beneath refinished. We will also be painting the walls and ceilings. Should we paint before refinishing the floors, or do the floors first and then paint?
Thanks.

I would do the floors last, that way any spills or spatter or ladder scuffs won't damage your fresh floor.

Invariably, there will be some baseboard damage during the floor finishing, don't worry about it, you can easily touch this up afterward.

I agree, I alway do the painting before any flooring if I have the choice.

Hi,

One of my friends is looking for floor refinishing. He also wants to have a wall painting. Should he first go for floor refinishing or wall painting??

Thanks

I think; ceiling, trim, wall, floor is what I read most often.

if it's his first DIY for this stuff, try to start inside a closet or behind a door - by the time you get to the most visible part of the room, you're more likely to be familiar with tools/technique.

I suppose there could always be special circumstances.
