Closet Protection

Post by Benoit » Fri Feb 09, 2018 10:15 am

Good day everyone,

I own a condo and I intend to rent it as Airbnb while I'm out of town or travelling. I have this huge closet where I wish to protect some of my belongings but I need some help figuring out how to lock it down effectively.

As you can see in the pictures, it's a 3 panel closet with the left/right panel on the same line while the middle panel is on a different line. I need to find an effective way to secure all 3 panels from moving and still be able to access the closet while I'm at home without having to uninstall a bunch of locks.

I am ok with drilling into the panel and the floor if necessary.
Thank you all for your advice!

There is no way to really secure bypass doors. You could try some of those zip-loc style locks like you see on jewelry case at the department store, but this is only going to keep out the honest folks. You may want to consider simply locking the door to this room and posting a sign stating that it is a private area and guests are prohibited. To lock the room, simply change the handset to a keyed entry, you could add a deadbolt if you wanted to, but that's probably not necessary.

What is the airbnb policy should there be theft of damage to the property? What does your insurance company have to say about you turning your place into a rental? Is this idea condo association approved? Not saying you shouldn't do this, just make sure your behind is covered should the worst happen.
