Ademco Alarm System Removal

Post by JTK45 » Wed Apr 11, 2018 1:01 pm

We have an Ademco Lynx alarm system that was installed by ADT, we haven't had service with it since 2001 and over the years it has randomly beeped which we fixed by entering the code but now it beeps every couple of minutes and entering the code either does nothing or stops it for 1-2 hours. I just want to remove the system. I have tried looking up how to do this to no avail. Everything I find shows a battery box we don't have. Does anyone know how to remove the system safely? I also don't see it listed in the breaker box.

If you don't have service with ADT and you own the equipment, I would imagine you could just dismantle it? Take it off the wall and snip the wires?

The ADT link isn't working for me ??
I googled Ademco Lynx, and it looks like it is powered by a transformer. Sometimes they are in the electrical panel, and often they are mounted to a basement lighting device box. You need to find it, and disconnect the 24VAC.

As for battery backup, all I see is that there are batteries inside your unit. They may be low on power, and that is why it is beeping.

This unit can also control smoke and carbon detectors. You will want to verify that your homes detectors aren't connected to this unit before you disconnect it.

I just remembered it might also intercept your land line as well, if you're using a land line. You may need to disconnect that from your phone box and reconnect your phone lines normally.
