Patching drywall next to shower/tub enclousre

Post by Rolomoto » Fri Jun 08, 2018 2:47 pm

How would you patch this? There is a gap btw the enclosure and the drywall. The tape lips over the gap and falls into it, so there is no backing for mud to stick onto, it would just go into the gap and the gap extends the entire perimeter of the enclosure.
Thanks for any ideas

Cut that tape out of the gap and profile the gap with mud (it may take a second application after the first dries and shrinks) Sand to get any lump /bumps and the apply mud and tape around the perimeter and coat out as normal. Sand prime and paint.

Yup, I agree. Fill the gap with mud fully and let it dry fully, then tape it. The mud will support the tape and keep it from failing again. Also, once painted, get it caulked to keep water from getting behind and softening/loosening the tape and mud.

If you want a faster cleaner way to finish this without drywalling you could do this.
