Thinset questions

Post by emtnut » Sun Aug 05, 2018 8:07 pm

OK, I finished up with the thin set for all the Kerdi band in the shower ... ready to tile.

Oh ! but the bag says if I'm using porcelain tiles, I need to mix with Kerlastic (not water)
It's Mapei Kerabond T medium-bed and thinset tile motar.

I guess I'll go get the Kerlastic ... just wondering if it's really necessary ??

It’s likey going to be fine with water but the Kerlastic is what they recommend. Water takes longer to cure because you have the mortar sandwiches between water proof membrane and a tile that does not breath easy either. I actually use A water based mortar for both. The name is escaping me at this time. I just give a little more one before grouting usually.
