install hardwood staircase

Post by thisIsFun » Tue Oct 09, 2018 10:13 am

Hi Shannon,

I was watching this video: https://youtu.be/Y8qj3js1rUw
It is about installing hardwood on stairs.

Our code (USA Midwest) requires that the tread depth is at least 10 inches. My floor boards are 3 inches. Your video shows three boards and they look like 3 inch boards to me. Does it mean that your code requires less than 10 inches?

Our national building code is a minimum of 220mm (8-3/4") in homes. I can't remember what those boards measured but I would say your guess of 3" was correct. You will just need to use part of a forth board.

Thanks for the reply. I like your code better. What works for Canadians should work for us. I don't think we have bigger feet than you :D
