Love your deck videos Shannon, I was just wondering I’m building a 38’ deck (pressure treated) should you buy as long as possible boards to attach to the house or can you use 4-10’ boards or maybe 2-12’and a 10’ ect’ Thanks so much for your time. Sincerely Les Cress 🍻

I removed your email since i do not need that , you will see all replies here.

If you are attaching directly into the existing rim joist of the house they could really be anything. If you are having to attach to the wall studs then they could be any length that meets between two stud locations. Normally you may expect that they should join on a stud but to effectively get enough fasteners in the end of each ledger board and into that one stud will be difficult so by making them meet between two studs your fasteners will be back from each end and still give good support.
