What's causing frost on the inside garage foundation?

Post by Ameds » Wed Feb 06, 2019 2:33 pm

I have an insulated and drywalled garage. I live in Ottawa, Canada so temperatures get pretty cold during the winter.

I've noticed some heavy frost build up on the north facing corner of the foundation. During warm spells, the frosts appears to melt causing some minor puddling.

I park in the garage so melted snow and high humidity might be a factor as well.

What is causing frost on only this part of the garage? How do I stop it? I considered installing a ventilation fan to exhaust some moisture but not sure weather it would solve the problem.

Any advice is appreciated.

Yup hi humidity is the cause and lack of air circulation in that corner likey the cause . Lowering the humidity can be rough through the winter but sometimes just running a small table fan to help circulate the air will help. During extreme cold it may not even help.

Shannon, thanks for the reply. I'll try bringing in a fan to help with air circulation and probably consider adding an exhaust vent in the spring.

Would it be advisable to go through the side of the garage (cement brick construction on the outside) or up through the attic?

I would go through the roof since that will be easier. Try the fan first ,it may be all you need.
