Waterproofing french doors

Post by JTGorospe » Tue Mar 12, 2019 12:31 am

Hello all,

I live in the Pacific Northwest. We experience rain, rain, and more rain here. I have too often seen the framing around french doors rotting. What is the best way to waterproof french doors and the rough opening at an exterior location?

You can use a peal and stick membrane to make a pan to protect the sill framing . I assume this door frame has a nail fin ? If so then you would install the door frame and use membrane to seal over the fin as well to prevent water getting in . I have a video that shows the procedure if you have a frame without a nail fin. The difference is that the side and top membrane would be added after the frame install and over the nail fin.
