Question about tile on concrete

Post by ttinman23 » Fri Sep 06, 2019 5:00 pm

Gutted a bathroom and scraped the floor to the concrete slab. Just wondering how much of the glue I have to get off to make sure the the tile sticks to the concrete. The floor isn’t completely clean of the glue, I’m guessing about 75 percent with quarter size patches of glue throughout. Should I keep scraping or you think I’m good to try and put the tile down.

I will assume you are going to use thinnest to install the tiles. I personally would give this another go with scraping. Try a razor scraper and see if you can get more off.

agreed, if using thinset to set the tile, scrape it clean with a razor scraper

Scraping is best. Do not be tempted to use a solvent as that will drive the adhesive further into the slab

You could also try sanding it off, maybe.

You can remove the tile adhesive residue through tile adhesive remover. let it there for a while and then scrape away the remaining glue.
